Perched above Dana Point Harbor, Heritage Park offers one of the most sweeping views in the city. From this vantage point, the marina stretches out below, boats neatly arranged against the blue of the Pacific, with the coastline unfolding gently in both directions.

Heritage Park in My Artwork
This painting was inspired by the view looking out from Heritage Park toward Dana Point Harbor. I wanted to capture that sense of openness—the orderly marina below, the soft curve of the coastline, and the bright California light that brings everything together.
I work in watercolor and ink to keep the scene lively and expressive. Loose ink lines suggest structure without stiffness, while watercolor adds movement and softness, especially in the water and sky. The pops of color in the foreground flowers help ground the scene and guide the eye toward the horizon.
The goal wasn’t to document every detail, but to convey the feeling of standing there—elevated, relaxed, and connected to both the place and the moment.
